Please Support the Safe Line Speeds in COVID-19 Act
I′m writing to express my sincere support for S. 713/H.R. 1815: the Safe Line Speeds in/During COVID-19 Act (of 2021). This legislation is necessary to protect animals, slaughterhouse workers, consumers, and the environment. Increased line speeds are especially dangerous during the COVID-19 pandemic, because slaughterhouses have been COVID-19 hotspots and increased line speed does not allow slaughterhouse workers to effectively socially distance. Faster line speeds are not worth the risks.
Creating a more sustainable food system is one of my highest priorities as your constituent, and accordingly, I respectfully urge you to support S. 713/H.R. 1815.

Creating a more sustainable food system is one of my highest priorities, and as your constituent, I respectfully request that you support S. 713/H.R. 1815: the Safe Line Speeds in/During COVID-19 Act (of 2021).
This bill is important because increased line speeds raise serious animal welfare concerns—the faster the line, the more animals are likely to remain conscious throughout the slaughter process and be alive when they reach the scalding feather-removal tanks. Faster line speeds also lead to serious worker safety issues and injuries, increase food-safety hazards, and reduce food quality for consumers. Higher-speed slaughter lines increase the risk of disease transmission (including COVID-19 and foodborne illness) and harm the environment with more water usage and waste.
In this time of uncertainty, I’d greatly appreciate your support of S. 713/H.R. 1815.

Faster line speeds increase the likelihood of animal suffering, lead to serious worker safety issues and injuries, raise risks to food safety, and reduce food quality for consumers. Increased line speeds also raise risks of disease transmission and harm the environment with more water usage and waste.
