I am a Portland resident, and I write today to ask that you introduce legislation to ban the sale of foie gras in Portland.

Foie gras is produced by shoving a pipe down the throats of ducks and geese and forcing in enormous quantities of food so the birds’ livers expand up to 10 times their normal size. This process causes extreme pain and suffering to the animals and generates vast amounts of waste. It is completely unsustainable and goes against every value Portland holds dear.

Very few restaurants in Portland sell foie gras, and many citizens have never even heard of it. Please introduce legislation to prevent this unnecessary and intolerable cruelty.
