NOTHING NEEDED HERE
California’s Proposition 12, passed by voters in 2018, sets landmark minimum space requirements for pregnant pigs, laying hens, and calves raised for veal. The law ensures that these animals have enough room to stand up, turn around, and lie down—all basic freedoms that factory farms often deny.
But Big Ag has fought Prop 12 at every turn, even prompting a recent lawsuit from the U.S. Department of Justice under President Trump. Now with a new “Farm Bill 2.0” on the horizon, there’s a serious risk that Congress could include language to weaken or overturn Prop 12.
We can’t let that happen. Congress must hear from you. The Farm Bill should not undermine Prop 12 or any state’s right to protect farmed animals.
