Protect Aquatic Animals and the Environment

Oregon House bill 2655, the Oregon Aquaculture Act, was introduced by Representative Gamba in 2023. This bill would have regulated certain environmental and animal welfare aspects of large-scale aquatic animal farming operations (aka “industrial aquaculture”) in Oregon. It would have required that the stocking density for aquatic animals not exceed levels optimal for their welfare, that the handling of aquatic animals be carried out as quickly and gently as possible, and more. HB 2655 would have prohibited net pens in all marine waters.
