It’s Time to Ban Foie Gras in Rhode Island
Lawmakers in Rhode Island are considering banning the production and sale of foie gras, a type of meat that involves some of the most inhumane treatment of animals. Ducks and geese used for foie gras are painfully force-fed through a pipe shoved down their throats to cause their livers to expand up to 10 times their normal size.
This year, at both House and Senate committee hearings, lawmakers heard compelling testimony and overwhelming support for a ban. But the bills (HB 5731 and SB 471) have yet to receive a vote in their respective committees.
Your legislator sits on one of the committees responsible for moving this legislation forward. Take action now and tell them that you strongly support HB 5731/SB 471.
This legislation will help end the extreme cruelty of force-feeding birds for foie gras. Together, we can create a kinder food system.
